Photonics Summit and Workshop 2018
07 Nov 2018 - 08 Nov 2018
San Jose, CA, USA
How Photonics Impacts the Way We Live
Photonics is key to creating innovative solutions in several markets, from lighting to healthcare to manufacturing and more. It’s opening the doors to new possibilities while helping extend traditional technologies with faster speeds, higher capacity, and greater accuracy.
Join Cadence and Lumerical for one or both days of the Photonics Summit and Workshop on November 7 and 8 to learn about photonics' impact and potential impact on our daily lives. On day one, hear from industry and academic experts about the many ways photonics is advancing industries such as medicine, energy savings, safety and security, defense, and manufacturing. For designers who want to get to work, sign up for the hands-on workshop on day two to learn how to design, implement, and verify a photonics IC.
Don’t miss this opportunity to learn about solutions for your design challenges and network with other expert users during lunch and social hour.
Who should attend?
- Photonics and electro-photonics designers and architects
- Photonics design project leads
- Photonics design managers
- CAD and PDK managers

Special Hands-On Photonics Workshop
Thursday, November 8
9:00am – 5:00pm
Dive hands-on into learning with a full day of presentations and exercises. Discover how to design, implement, and verify a photonics IC for lidar with tools from Cadence, MathWorks, and Lumerical including:
- Antenna characterization (FDTD)
- Antenna array design (MathWorks Phased Array System Toolbox)
- Co-simulation (beam steering using Spectre® AMS Designer + Lumerical INTERCONNECT)
- Analog and mixed-signal visualization and analysis through MathWorks tools
- Integrated design – Virtuoso® custom IC design platform including layout SKILL® scripting/Pcells
Workshop based on recent thesis work at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), "Integrated Lidar with Optical Phased Arrays in Silicon Photonics."
