Course Description
EMX® is Cadence®'s large-scale, full-wave, planar 3D electromagnetic simulator for designing and verifying Integrated Circuits (ICs). The EMX simulator is a powerful engine that simulates electromagnetic (EM) effects in circuits, in a unified manner. This introductory course teaches you to setup and use the EMX simulator. You start with reviewing EM concepts and how the EMX simulator works. You then learn to configure the EMX environment and set up simulations. You define ports and describe edge meshes. You view the types of devices used for model generation and review extraction capabilities. You also explore the concept of black boxing transistors in an amplifier design. An inductor model is used as an example for many of the hands-on labs. The lab exercises reinforce the topics covered in the lectures. This course also teaches you to use the ParaView 3D visualization tool. This tool is packaged with the EMX software. Using ParaView in the labs, you visualize the current charge and mesh for the inductor model. You then conclude the course by running corner simulations on the inductor layout.
