Course Description
Microwave Office® is Cadence®'s design platform for RF and Microwave engineers who need to design, simulate, and verify RF systems. Typical applications include the design of amplifiers, filters, and antennas. The software includes circuit simulation capabilities critical for RF design, such as harmonic balance analysis. Electromagnetic (EM) simulation engines are incorporated into the platform, especially AXIEM for planar EM simulation and Clarity™ for full 3D EM simulations.
This course gives you an overview of the major areas of the Microwave Office design environment, including schematic entry, layout control, linear circuit simulation, optimization, and yield analysis, and an introduction to the AXIEM EM simulator.
The laboratory exercises enforce the concepts by having you create a simple distributed filter and simulate it in various ways.
Learning Objectives
After completing the certification program, you will be able to:
- Configure the look and feel of the Microwave Office environment
- Create a stub filter design and simulate it to see its response
- Snap together and control the layout of the filter
- Manipulate the view of the graph showing the filter response
- Tune the filter's stub length and control the results in the graph
- Sweep the width and length of the stub and view the results in various ways
- Create and use hotkeys
- Use scripts to perform useful functions
- Optimize the performance of the filter to meet prescribed goals
- Calculate the sensitivity of the filter to manufacturing variations using the built-in yield analysis capabilities
- Simulate the filter in AXIEM, the built-in planar EM simulator
