Enhancing CFD Accuracy and Efficiency with Adaptive Re-Meshing

The Aerospace and Defense sector is faced with constant challenges stemming from the need for simulation accuracy and efficiency to accelerate the design cycle. A wide range of techniques have been developed to automate the processes and get more accurate flow-field predictions. One of the key factors in this effort is the mesh generation process automation. Manually generating meshes for computational fluid dynamics (CFD) can require extensive knowledge of the physics at play and detailed best practices, which can be hard to produce consistently. This sometimes leads to grids being unnecessarily refined in some regions of the flow and under-refined in others.

Output-based adaptive re-meshing offers an excellent solution. This fully automated process locally refines regions with critical flow features that require smaller cell sizes, optimizing mesh spacing for accuracy while maintaining a reasonable cell count and improving CFD workflow turnaround time.

This webinar will demonstrate the adaptive re-meshing workflow using Cadence’s Fidelity Pointwise and Hexpress meshers alongside the Fidelity Flow solver. You will learn about:

  • The output-based adaptive re-meshing algorithm
  • The adaptive meshing workflow with Fidelity CFD solutions
  • Workflow results on industry-relevant test cases, such as sonic-boom prediction and the transonic flow around wings and aircraft
